Photo: Final touches

08/08/2018 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

A worker applies stain to the inside of the decorative canopy that will cover the cathedra, or bishop’s chair, Aug. 2 in the sanctuary of the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace. The canopy matches the larger baldacchino above the old altar. The sanctuary is undergoing extensive renovation as part of phase two of the restoration of the historic church. Bishop Larry Silva will bless the newly refurbished section of the cathedral when he celebrates the 175th anniversary of its dedication with a Mass on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. Other new additions to the cathedral include a burial crypt for bishops and an expanded sanctuary floor.
