Vicar general Msgr. Gary Secor led the diocese’s annual Corpus Christi street procession from the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa to the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace, June 3, the feast of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ.

Msgr. Secor began the celebration with 10:30 a.m. Mass at the co-cathedral. Then, carrying the monstrance displaying the sacred host, he led the procession of clergy and laity down School Street to begin the hour-long walk to the cathedral.

Along the 1.25 mile route over the freeway and into downtown Honolulu, priests and deacons took turns carrying the heavy monstrance, protected from the sun by a four-posted canopy carried by lay persons.

The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as Corpus Christi, is traditionally observed with an outdoor procession lead by a bishop, priest or deacon carrying a monstrance containing the sacred host.

Bishop Larry Silva began using the co-cathedral to cathedral route in 2007.

The procession concluded with eucharistic adoration and Msgr. Secor presiding over Benediction at 1 p.m. in the cathedral basilica.
