Hoku award-winners Hookena headlining at St. Ann Hoolaulea

04/04/2018 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

St. Ann Parish and School in Kaneohe for decades were known for their annual fairs and hoolaulea. St. Ann re-engaged this tradition in 2017 and is positioned to have an even bigger celebration this year, 8 a.m.2 p.m., Saturday, April 14.

Returning to St. Ann’s second annual hoolaulea will be more than 50 crafters sharing their treasures, fashions and goodies. You will be ablt to find something for everyone and enjoy pre-summer savings shopping with some of Hawaii’s most popular artisans.

Hoolaulea planners have stepped up the Xtreme attractions for the young and young-at-heart with some of the most exciting rides available on the island. The Boomerang will return with the new Xtreme ride, the Turbo Tubs. The Lil’ Swing will make its return for the little ones who will also enjoy the St. Ann Keiki Train. Teens can take advantage of an all-day wrist band and ride all the rides all day long.

Headlining the day’s entertainment will be the Grammy-nominated and multi Hoku Hanohano award winning group Hookena.

Rounding out the lineup will be incredible performers such as Na Kupuna ‘O Koolau, the island music and contemporary styling of Derek Lee, the wonderful dancers from Kailua Dance Academy, the award winning Magic of Kaulana and an exciting performance by SHYNE.

“We are so excited about our second annual Hoolaulea,” said St. Ann principal Mandy Thronas-Brown. “This gathering not only allows all of Windward Oahu an opportunity to celebrate community, but provides those who may not have visited our campus to experience this hidden treasure, St. Ann Church and School. Join us and bring your keiki to enjoy the rides, great food and cotton candy, shave ice and popcorn that makes a hoolaulea so much fun.”

St. Ann Church and School celebrated their 175th anniversary in 2016. The parish is the second oldest in the State. St. Ann Early Learning Center and Grade School provide educational opportunities for ages 2 through the grade eight.

All of the proceeds from this event support school projects and initiatives.

For more information about the St. Ann Hoolaulea, visit www.saintannhawaii.com or call 247-3092, ext. 102. Wristbands cost $15 prior to the event and $20 on the day of the event. Stop by St. Ann School between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning March 26 to get your voucher.
