Grants to Chaminade add classrooms, learning lab

04/04/2018 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Chaminade University of Honolulu recently received $100,000 in grants in support of its Hale Hoaloha building renovation — $50,000 from the Atherton Family Foundation, $25,000 from the Matson Foundation and $25,000 from the First Hawaiian Bank Foundation.

Formerly a dorm, the three-story Hale Hoaloha was renovated to house four classrooms and offices for Chaminade’s criminal justice program. Among the new classrooms is an active learning laboratory with 10 learning stations and state-of-the-art technology.

Hale Hoaloha also is home to a new Center for Teaching and Learning, a space dedicated to professional development for Chaminade faculty.

“We are so grateful to these community funders for their generous support of Hale Hoaloha,” said Lynn Babington, president of Chaminade University, in a news release.

“The new classroom spaces will help us better serve our large cohort of nursing students and the Center for Teaching and Learning will positively impact faculty recruitment and retention,” she said.
