Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation on March 7 dedicated the second phase of its Meheula Vista senior affordable rental housing development in Mililani Mauka. A blessing and groundbreaking also marked the start of phase three of the project.

Meheula Vista provides low-income seniors with an affordable permanent living option, offering complementary amenities so residents can “age in place.” With the dedication, the project is halfway complete. Its planned four apartment building complex will offer 301 housing units, a multi-purpose building for senior activities and 143 parking stalls.

Meheula Vista’s second phase has 75 one-bedroom, one-bath units. Its amenities include fully equipped kitchens, a picnic area, a community room, beautifully landscaped common areas, a coin-operated laundry, and an on-site resident manager.

“Building more affordable housing is a top priority in our state right now and Catholic Charities Housing Development Corporation is proud to play a role in filling this critical need for our kupuna,” said CCHDC president Rick Stack in a news release. “It is more important than ever to provide our seniors with affordable rental options.”

Meheula Vista serves seniors with incomes of 60 percent or less of the area median income. CCHDC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Catholic Charities Hawaii, partnered with GSF, LLC, to develop Meheula Vista. Mililani developer Castle & Cooke Homes Hawaii was contracted to build the complex.

Incorporated in 1999 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization operating as a subsidiary of Catholic Charities Hawaii, CCHDC owns, develops, and manages real estate properties with the intent to provide affordable housing for the elderly, special needs individuals and other socially or economically disadvantaged persons and families.

The third phase of the Meheula Vista complex is scheduled for occupancy by early 2019.
