Brother Joseph Dutton topic of Women’s Guild meeting

04/04/2018 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Brother Joseph Dutton, whose life of self-sacrifice and inspiring good works has placed him in consideration to be Molokai’s third candidate for sainthood, is the featured topic for the Catholic Women’s Guild Hawaii annual meeting, 2:45 p.m., Saturday, April 28, at Regina Pacis Convent in Kaimuki.

After a short registration period, the gathering will proceed with Mass at 3 p.m., a short business meeting at 3:45 p.m., followed by a presentation by Patrick Boland on the life and cause of Brother Joseph (Ira) Dutton.

For more than four decades following the death of Father Damien, Joseph Dutton carried forward this saint’s mission on Molokai. He devotedly cared for the boys and men with Hansen’s disease living in the Baldwin Home at Kalawao.

The Diocese of Honolulu has taken the first steps toward Brother Dutton’s beatification and canonization by giving official recognition to the Joseph Dutton Guild which is studying his life and the prospects for sainthood. Boland is a member of the guild.

Regina Pacis, a convent of the Sisters of the Sacred Hearts, is at 1120 5th Avenue, Honolulu. Parking is available in front of Sacred Hearts Academy, using Waialae Avenue entrance.

All women are invited. For more information, contact Pat Alvarez at palv5355@aol.com or 262-0728.
