Bishop announces his parish episcopal visit schedule for 2018

03/08/2018 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Bishop Larry Silva will visit 10 parishes in 2018 as part of his official Episcopal Visit schedule announced Feb. 26 in the diocesan E-News, the diocese’s weekly online newsletter. He will visit five Oahu parishes, three parishes on Maui and one each on the Big Island and Kauai.

According to the diocesan Office of Pastoral Planning which organizes the events, the two-day weekend visit “is intended to give the bishop a picture of the life of the parish and give him an opportunity to get to know the parish and parishioners with a deeper bond.”

The visit “also gives parishioners an opportunity to meet with the bishop, to discuss their parish and parish life and to get to know him as their chief pastor.”

Here is the 2018 Episcopal Visit schedule:

  • Resurrection of the Lord, Waipio, Oahu: March 3-4
  • St. Anthony, Wailuku, Maui: April 14-15
  • Holy Rosary, Paia, Maui: April 21-22
  • Sacred Heart, Pahoa, Hawaii: May 5-6
  • Holy Trinity, Kuliouou, Oahu: May 26-27
  • St. Augustine, Waikiki, Oahu: June 23-24
  • Immaculate Conception, Lihue, Kauai: July 7-8
  • Kula Catholic Community, Maui: Sept. 8-9
  • St. Patrick, Honolulu, Oahu: Dec. 1-2
  • Sacred Heart, Waianae, Oahu: Dec. 15-16

Each parish prepares for the visit by writing a parish report for the bishop.

The visits include meetings with the parish self-study team, the parish staff, the parish council and parishioners at large, giving the bishop and his pastoral staff forums to discuss the parish report and parish life in general. The bishop also attends and preaches at all the weekend liturgies.
