Catholic Charities, AARP offer free tax prep for seniors

02/22/2018 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Hawaii seniors and others who need help preparing their 2017 tax returns by the April 17 deadline have experts at two Catholic Charities Hawaii locations, one on Oahu, one on the Big Island, available to assist them.

Catholic Charities and AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service, are teaming up to provide free tax assistance and preparation to Hawaii taxpayers with low to moderate incomes, with special attention to those 60 and older.

Walk-in appointments are available on Oahu at Catholic Charities’ Clarence T.C. Ching Campus, 1822 Keeaumoku Street, Saturdays only, Feb. 10 through April 14, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call (808) 545-6016 for more information.

Walk-in and call-ahead appointments are also being taken at Catholic Charities Big Island office in Kona at 73-5618 Maiau Street, Suite B201 (above Costco), on Tuesdays only, Feb. 6 through April 10, noon to 4 p.m. For an appointment, call (808) 319-3013. Walk-in tax service is available at the Kona office after 2 p.m. on those days.

One does not have to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this free service.

Tax service appointments at Catholic Charities Lanakila Multi-Purpose Senior Center in Kalihi are already booked for this year.
