‘Talking story’ is the theme for catechist retreat days

01/11/2018 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

In Hawaii we love to talk story. Stories strengthen relationships and impart wisdom. They are also powerful tools for evangelization and catechesis.

“Let’s Talk Story” is the theme for three upcoming retreats for catechists on Oahu, Kauai and Maui sponsored by the diocesan Religious Education Office.

The half-day retreats will “celebrate Christ alive through the lens of Hawaiian cultural values — moolelo (story-telling), haahaa (humility) and kuleana (responsibility).

Here are the details:

  • Oahu Catechist Retreat: Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa, Saturday, Jan. 20. 9 a.m.-noon, retreat with Dallas Carter. Noon-1 p.m., the original order of the sacraments of initiation question and answer session with Jayne Mondoy, director of the Religious Education Office. Register by Jan. 15. Bring your own lunch. No fee.
  • Kauai Catechist Retreat: Immaculate Conception School, 3343 Kanakolu Street, Lihue. Saturday, Feb. 17. 9 a.m.-noon., retreat with Dallas Carter.
