Bishop reestablishes liturgical commission
Bishop Joseph A. Ferrario has reactivated the diocesan liturgical commission after two years of dormancy. He is announcing the appointments of the group’s ten members in this issue of the Hawaii Catholic Herald.
The commission, anE advisory council composed of priests, religious and laity, will address worship related issues from church music to church architecture. Their first meeting is set for January.
A liturgical commission had been in place when Bishop Ferrario became ordinary of the diocese in 1982. The work of the group led to the establishment of the diocesan Office of Worship six years ago.
With a full-time department to carry out the work of the commission, its role gradually diminished. The commission folded in 1990 when members’ terms expired.

Vatican official visits Hawaii for Damien cause
An official of the Vatican Congregation for the Causes of Saints was in Hawaii last month to interview the Honolulu woman who has claimed to be cured of cancer through the intercession of Blessed Damien of Molokai.
Msgr. Robert J. Sarno, a U.S. official at the Congregation who visited Hawaii the last week of November also spoke to members of the woman’s family and Father Christopher Keahi, the Hawaii superior of the Sacred Hearts Fathers. …
The visit follows the unanimous Oct. 18 ruling by the medical commission of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints that the cure of the woman more than a decade ago was a “miracle,” that is, unexplainable according to available medical knowledge.
