The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation on Nov. 7 donated more than $1 million to Catholic Charities Hawaii’s Laulima House campaign. The grant will help the organization expand counseling and child case management services at the 5,377 square-foot property located next to Catholic Charities’ main campus in Makiki.

“This donation and others to the Laulima House fundraising campaign allows us to relocate our counseling programs to the Laulima House to offer a place of healing in a more comfortable, home-like setting and less institutional environment,” said Catholic Charities president and CEO Terry Walsh in a news release.

The Laulima House provides a higher degree of privacy for two main programs: counseling services and family visitation. Counseling is offered to individuals, couples and families to promote healthy relationships and reduce individual and family stress.

The place also provides a safe home-like setting for family strengthening visits between keiki and their biological parents, or children being considered for foster care.

Laulima House is also home to the organization’s Development and Community Outreach departments and provides a valuable space for offices, meetings, special gatherings, volunteer training and more.
