The Diocese of Honolulu is encouraging every parish, oratory and school to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the final apparition of Our Lady of Fatima on Oct. 13.
Such a commemoration would also provide an opportunity to earn a plenary indulgence being granted by Pope Francis.
In a memo sent out by the diocesan Office of Worship, parishes, oratories and schools were asked to consider placing a statue of Our Lady of Fatima for public veneration for a few weeks before the anniversary or at least on the anniversary day itself, Oct. 13.
The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace will display a statue of Our Lady of Fatima on Oct. 13, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. A special Mass will be celebrated at noon.
To receive a plenary indulgence, one must participate in a celebration or prayer in honor of Our Blessed Mother, pray the Our Father, recite the Creed and invoke Our Lady of Fatima.
The person must also go to sacramental confession and receive Holy Communion within several days of the celebration or visit, and say a prayer for the intention of the Holy Father.
