Serra hosting gatherings for religious, priests

09/21/2017 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

The Serra Club of Honolulu is hosting two events in October in appreciation of those who have dedicated their lives to God and the church — one for religious men and women, the other for priests.

Serra’s 25th annual appreciation luncheon for consecrated religious is 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Oct. 14, in the Blessed Sacrament Parish Hall, at 2124 Pauoa Road in Honolulu.

The event, for all of Hawaii’s religious brothers and sisters, will be casual and non-structured. Participants are encouraged to come “to relax and enjoy the fellowship, renew old acquaintances and to make new ones.”

Organizers said it will not be a time of speeches, but those who come are asked to “bring a story to share.”

The luncheon is free, but the Serra Club must have reservations by Oct. 2 so it can buy and prepare enough food for everyone.

Make reservations with Mark Pillori, 721-1810 or markp@pixi.com until Oct. 1. Thereafter call Jack Kampfer, 621-0852, or email jbkampfer@yahoo.com.

The Serra Club invites all priests residing in the Diocese of Honolulu to a gala appreciation dinner at the Hale Koa Hotel, 6 p.m., Oct. 12. Diocesan priests, religious order priests, military chaplains and visiting priests are welcome.

Reservations for the steak and mahimahi dinner must be made by Sept. 29. The Serra club will pay for parking. Contact Serran June Brieske, 836-3080, or by email at thebrieskes1@juno.com.

Founded in 1970, the Serra Club of Honolulu is part of a worldwide Catholic organization of lay men and women dedicated to promoting vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and vowed religious life.

For further information on Serra, contact president Jack Kampfer at 621-0852.
