Hale Kau Kau, a ministry of St. Theresa Church in Kihei, in July was awarded a $40,000 grant from The Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation to enhance the homebound meal delivery services to the elderly, sick and disabled in South Maui. It is Hale Kau Kau’s mission, to alleviate hunger by providing nutritious meals to the homebound and hungry in a safe, loving and supportive environment.
Hale Kau Kau (HKK) is a non-discriminatory program that serves the hungry and homebound in South Maui. Volunteers come from all over Maui to offer their time, talent and treasure. Volunteers have been coming forward for the past 26 years to assist in serving the hungry and homebound.
It truly takes a village and on Maui, Hale Kau Kau has been blessed to have support from many individuals, corporations and government agencies which has allowed Hale Kau Kau to feed the hungry since 1991. Hale Kau Kau is appreciative of the support and generosity of The Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation which will aid in its mission to continue to support the HKK mission.
With the senior population in South Maui growing, homebound meal requests are increasing. This grant from the Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation will enable Hale Kau Kau to better serve the continued needs of the community, as more and more elderly, sick and disabled are being referred to the program by physicians, social workers, the Maui County on Aging, and senior housing programs. Without Hale Kau Kau, many of these clients would go hungry.
