Photo: Water man Gene

06/15/2017 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Bishop Larry Silva on May 25 blesses the new pump that will soon supply St. Stephen Diocesan Center with water. The apparatus sucks water out of a 300-foot deep well to service the complex which includes residences for the bishop and others, diocesan offices, the Carmelite Convent, retreat facilities and more. The pump was christened “Gene’s Pump Station” after the now-retired Gene Pollock, pictured left, who, as head of maintenance for St. Stephen for many years, was responsible for the upkeep of the system of natural springs and wooden water tanks that had provided the facility water for more than 70 years.
