The Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace is offering opportunities to receive a plenary indulgence in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima.
The church is granting a plenary indulgence those who visit with devotion an image of Our Lady of Fatima displayed for public veneration on the days of the anniversary of the apparitions — the 13th of each month from May to October — and participate in any celebration or prayer in honor of the Virgin Mary, pray the Our Father, recite the Creed and invoke Our Lady of Fatima.
The Blessed Mother appeared in Fatima to three shepherd children on the 13th of the months June through October 1917.
The cathedral will display a statue of Our Lady of Fatima 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on June 13, July 13, Sept. 13 and Oct. 13, and 5 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 13.
To obtain the plenary indulgence, one must go to confession, receive communion and pray for the intentions of the Holy Father.
Those who cannot come to the cathedral because of age or illness may receive the indulgence by praying in front of a small image of Our Lady of Fatima on the anniversary days of the apparitions and promising to fulfill the three conditions when they can.
