Valley of the Temples to dedicate statue of Virgin Mary
The Valley of the Temples Memorial Park in Kahaluu will unveil an eight-foot marble statue of the Blessed Mother, May 8. Bishop Joseph A. Ferrario and Father Charles Kaleikoa, pastor of St. George parish in Waimanalo, will bless the sculpture entitled, “Madonna of the Valley,” in the 11 a.m. ceremony.
Intricately created from white Carrara marble taken from the same area Michelangelo found the stone for his statue of David, the sculpture was crafted by master carvers in Pietra Santra, Italy.
The work stands on a pedestal in the Catholic section of the cemetery with arms outstretched and the Koolau Mountains as a backdrop.

Musical Mass honoring Damien will make its debut here May 10
A new musical Mass, composed in tribute to Blessed Damien, will be sung in public for the first time on his feast day, in the church where he was ordained in a language he would have understood.
Written by island-born musician and composer Cynthia Chun Kam, the music promises to heighten the celebration of Damien Day’s culminating liturgy, 10:30 a.m., on May 10 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace.
The “Mass of Faithful Love in Honor of St. Damien de Veuster, SS.CC.” will be sung by a select choir of Sacred Hearts Academy students, members of the cathedral choir and a number of Sisters of the Sacred Hearts.
Bishop Larry Silva will preside at the Mass.
