05/04/2017 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Capuchin Franciscan Father Gordon Combs retired to his order’s headquarters, Sacred Hearts Monastery in Yonkers, N.Y., on April 20 after serving 28 years in Hawaii. He turned 80 on Holy Saturday, April 15.

Father Combs had been semi-retired in residence at Honolulu Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace where he assisted celebrating Mass and providing the sacraments.

The Yonkers, N.Y., native, after his ordination in 1964, served for 12 years at the Capuchin Japan Mission in Okinawa in parish and teaching ministry for 12 years. He then worked for 13 years to the Capuchin’s Guam mission where he also served as a parish priest and as a teacher.

He was assigned to Hawaii in 1989. Here Father Combs served in parish, teaching and health care ministry and as spiritual assistant for the Secular Franciscan Order.

Father Combs’ new address is Sacred Heart Monastery, 110 Shonnard Place, Yonkers, N.Y. 10703.
