Standing up for life
Bishop Silva’s front page letter concerning assisted suicide (Feb. 10) was beautifully moving and filled with God’s truth. Although I am not Catholic, I love the Lord and believe “He’s large and in charge.” I also believe in the sanctity of each human life.
The first state senate hearing for SB 1129 “Options for Dying” was held at the capitol on Feb. 15. I attended the hearing and testified against the bill.
I was surprised to hear two testifiers in favor of the bill make a point to say that they were Catholic.
I was even more surprised to hear that assisted suicide was a plank in the Democratic Party platform both here in Hawaii and nationally. So at decision time, all members of the committee — all Democrats since there are no Republicans in the State Senate — voted to pass this bill on to the next committee.
I would plead with your readers to 1) pray that God would intervene in this issue, 2) sign the petition at church or on-line, 3) call their own state senator and state house member to stand against this anti-God “culture of death” bill.
