Vicar general to be invested as a monsignor

Vicar general Msgr. Gary L. Secor will be invested as a monsignor at a Mass at 6 p.m., Feb. 2, the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple (Candlemas Day), in the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace. Bishop Larry Silva will preside.

Msgr. Secor will be wearing the monsignor’s black cassock with red-purple piping. He will be given a red-purple fascia or sash, and a black mozetta, a short cape reserved for monsignors who are also rectors of cathedrals and basilicas.

Msgr. Secor was given the honorary title of monsignor, formally called a Chaplain to His Holiness, by Pope Francis last year. Bishop Silva announced the tribute on Dec. 22.

The Feast of the Presentation of the Lord is also the World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Persons. All who take vows as religious sisters, brothers and priests are invited to receive a special blessing during the Mass.
