The diocesan Stewardship and Development office will host its fifth annual “Stewardship Day,” Jan. 28 at Mary, Star of the Sea Church in Waialae-Kahala.
This year’s Stewardship Day features a keynote presentation by Father Andrew Kemberling, chairman of the board for the International Catholic Stewardship Council (ICSC). Father Kemberling has been a board member of ICSC since 2012. He co-authored the book, “Making Stewardship a Way of Life: A Complete Guide for Catholic Parishes,” which has been distributed in the U.S. and internationally.
Father Kemberling has been a priest of the Archdiocese of Denver since 2002. He is presently pastor of St. Vincent de Paul parish in Colorado’s capital city. He is also a dean of the Southeast Denver Deanery of the Archdiocese of Denver, a board member of the Colorado Family Action and Divine Mercy Hospice, and president of the Colorado Chapter of the Patrons of the Arts of the Vatican Museum.
Prior to his current parish assignment, Father Kemberling served as pastor at St. Thomas More parish in Centennial, Colorado. There, he introduced a stewardship initiative which sparked a remarkable spirit of giving among parishioners. Their efforts were honored with the prestigious Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy award from ICSC in 2007.
Stewardship Day on Jan. 28 also features a variety of workshops presented by local and national stewardship experts. Among them are:
- Mary Ann Otto, chair of the ICSC Parish Stewardship Education Committee
- Mila Glodava, co-author of “Making Stewardship a Way of Life”
- Father Mark Gantley, diocesan judicial vicar, who will speak on “Stewardship and the Sacraments of Initiation”
- Jim Walsh, diocesan director of the Office of Pastoral Planning, discussing “Stewardship and Pastoral Planning at Your Parish”
- Jeff Neibling, Esq., who will cover “Stewardship and Estate Planning”
- Mike DiCosola, director of mobile services for “myParish App,” sharing on the topic, “The Language of Stewardship”
Lunch will be provided for Stewardship Day participants. Additional lunchtime workshops are scheduled as well with representatives from Our Sunday Visitor, Parish Data Systems, Vanco, Catholic Charities, and myParish App.
There is no cost to attend Stewardship Day, thanks to a sponsorship from Our Sunday Visitor.
Local clergy are encouraged to sign up for a special stewardship session Jan. 27, 1-4 p.m. at St. Stephen Diocesan Center, which includes a reception and dinner.
