Bishop Tod Brown of the Diocese of Orange County, California, left, learns how to plant seeds at the hydroponic garden on the rooftop of the Institute for Human Services women’s center in Honolulu. The retired bishop was with a group of visiting members of the Order of Malta Western Association. Jill and Pat Ortiz organized the visitors to join local Order of Malta member Darryl Wong on the IHS community project. Also assisting is order member Linda Marantette. The other two women are IHS residents teaching them how to seed. The Order of Malta’s mission is to help the sick and the poor. It has taken residents from Hawaii on pilgrimages to Lourdes over the last six years. Anyone who has had a life changing illness or is interested in getting more information about volunteering or attending the May 2-10, 2017, pilgrimage can contact Darryl Wong at 943-3106 or dwong@99imperial.net.
