Letters to the Herald: July 15, 2016

07/15/2016 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Support peace

The more than 400 members of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities are asking for all people in the United States to join them in praying for the victims of the shootings in Dallas, Texas; Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and Minneapolis, Minnesota, and to work together to end gun violence in any form — whether perpetrated by private citizens or law enforcement officers.

This past week’s shootings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castille and the attack on police officers in Dallas that left five officers dead and seven others wounded continue to show clearly that any one of us in this country is a potential victim of gun violence. Shooting victims cross the lines of race, gender, age and socioeconomic standing.

We need to find better ways of resolving our conflicts and settling our disputes than pulling the trigger. Peace can never be achieved through violence. We ask everyone to join us in prayer and participate and support activities of peace.

Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities
