Photo: Invasive alien algae

06/16/2016 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

1limuTyla, a seventh grader at Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Pearl City, displays a handful of invasive algae at Paiko Beach on Maunalua Bay in East Honolulu. On April 11, the school’s sixth through eighth graders donned gloves and tabis to help the environmental organization Malama Maunalua remove the unwanted plants that are choking out the native sea grass beds, and turning the waters of the popular water recreational spot cloudy and brown.
