Maryknoll School fifth-graders, from left, Chris Ho, Jayden Asato, Christopher Casupang and Ethan Kimura received the Amaze Award at the 2016 VEX Worlds international competition in Louisville, Ky., for the design of their robot capable of grasping a plastic ball and putting it in a goal. The Hawaii group, self-dubbed “Spartanius Maximus,” had the top judged award for robot design out of the 147 elementary school teams. The Amaze Award recognizes a high-scoring robot that clearly demonstrates overall quality. (Photo courtesy of Lee Kimura)
