Taking the Rice Bowl challenge

More than 300 students in Hawaii Catholic schools participated in the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl “App Challenge” this Lent, which aimed to connect their prayers, fasting and almsgiving in a tangible way to the poor and vulnerable around the world.

Local video to open International Christian Film Festival

Happy birthday, Ida, 104 years young

Adelaida Barboza Freitas (Ida) was born April 8, 1912, in Sprecklesville, Maui. Growing up on a sugar plantation, with 11 siblings was not easy, but it taught Ida many important lessons that have helped carry her through 104 years of life. Devotion to God and the church was always “number one,” followed by honesty, dependability, hard work, self-discipline, hospitality and, of course, a great sense of humor.

Parish raises $3.4 million for new Kapolei church
