Manaolana | Lisa Gomes: The positive effects of confession

02/11/2016 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

LISA’S CATECHISM CORNER

YOUCAT*: “Confession reconciles the sinner with God and the Church.” [1468-1470, 1496]

“Forgive me Father, for I have sinned …”

We are sinners. Yes, we’re not perfect. (Did you think you were?) The nice thing is that we are gifted with the sacrament of Reconciliation in which we are forgiven and reconciled with God, and also with his church.

Confession — how many of us don’t take advantage of this beautiful sacrament as often as we could, and probably should? And why wouldn’t we? When we confess our sins, a weight is lifted off our shoulders. We experience forgiveness, peace, comfort, hope, sanity, freedom and love. #YearOfMercy

“In failing to confess, Lord, I would only hide you from myself, not myself from you.” (St. Augustine)
