The Harold K.L. Castle Foundation has awarded Chaminade University a $267,627 grant to support the school’s launch of the Castle K-16 Engineering Pipeline Project which is designed to create high-quality engineering opportunities for elementary, intermediate and high school students in Windward Oahu.
The grant runs from April 1, 2016, to Aug. 1, 2018.
The project hopes to increase teachers’ knowledge and confidence in the implementation of the Engineering Design Process in their classrooms, and boost students’ interest in STEM-related (science, technology, engineering, math) careers.
“This partnership between the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation and Chaminade University is an exciting one,” said Terrence George, president and CEO of the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, in a news release. “The foundation’s overarching goals are, in education, to increase student achievement by developing instructional leaders, improving the conditions in which they work and equipping them with new teaching and learning strategies.”
He also said the foundation hopes to dramatically increase the number of Windward Oahu youth who attain employment success, “particularly in STEM careers.”
