The Diocese of Honolulu, with the support of the Order of Malta, will celebrate Mass for the World Day of the Sick, at 6 p.m., Feb. 11, in the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace. Bishop Larry Silva will preside at the liturgy which will include the sacrament of the anointing of the sick.
The church offers the anointing of the sick to Catholics who are seriously ill because of disease, injury or old age, or to those who have serious mental or emotional illness. Participation in the sacrament for minor or insignificant ailments should be avoided in good conscience.
The Order of Malta is a worldwide lay religious organization dedicated to serving the sick and the poor.
