Full transition to second grade Confirmation to take 5 years
Soon Confirmation in Hawaii will no longer be a high school sacrament but one received in the second grade, with first Holy Communion. The change will be staggered for parishes over the next five years during which the Diocese of Honolulu will return the reception of the three “sacraments of initiation” to their “original” order — Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Communion.
Cathedral Catholic Academy closing
After eight decades of providing Catholic education in downtown Honolulu, the parish school of the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace will close in June.

Hawaii welcomes Tonga’s first, church’s youngest cardinal

Clergy from various local Christian churches joined Bishop Larry Silva and dozens of faithful for a Taize prayer service at the Newman Center at the University of Hawaii-Manoa Jan. 21. The Taize service was one of the events commemorating the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which this year took place Jan. 18-25.
