St. Anthony Church, deep in the heart of Kalihi on Puuhale Street, will celebrate its 100th anniversary his year under the centennial celebration theme, “100 Years Growing in Faith, Hope, and Love.”
The celebration kicks off Jan. 10 with a 9 a.m. Mass celebrated by Bishop Larry Silva followed by the St. Anthony Kalihi Fair at 10:30 am.
The fair will have a historical-cultural theme and will showcase cultural and game booths, entertainment depicting important events in the history of the parish, and the colorful customs of different cultures. The program will include the coronation of the Centennial Court.
St. Anthony Church has served the residents of lower Kalihi for a century, from Hawaiians to Portuguese, followed by waves of immigrants from Japan, the Philippines, Samoa and Micronesia. Today, St. Anthony is a vibrant community of many ethnicities.
The parish campus includes a school serving grades pre-school through eight, a convent and a rectory.
