Manaolana | Makana Aiona: Don’t forget the pauses

12/03/2015 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

MAKANA’S HELPFUL HINTS

Today’s tip: Advent is all about doing the pauses correctly! The correct pauses can totally transform your perspective and make the message unmistakably clear!

With many things in the world today, speed is increasing, causing people to want things quicker and therefore react quicker. But I want you to consider this. Athletes all pause and take some time to mentally prepare for what will happen during the game before it even starts. When one is properly focused on the bigger picture before going out to “compete,” performance is given proper meaning and scope. The athlete can channel his or her emotions, efforts and thoughts to positively affect the athlete’s play.

This is why we, as Catholics, must always take time to, “Be still and know that he is God!” (Psalm 46:10)

This is the purpose of Advent. We pause, to focus on and prepare for the Christmas season. We recall the ancient longing for the coming of the Messiah that was fulfilled with the birth of Christ to strengthen us through our current longing for his second coming.
