Today’s tip: Hold a “family play day” for a few hours on a Saturday for young adult parents.
I am a rookie parent and it is difficult. I used to jump at any great adult faith formation opportunity from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on a weeknight, but now I just can’t decide on whether or not I can get myself there.
I have to check with my wife, see if she’s interested, and then make sure the children are cared for and not thrown off their schedule. Impossible? No, but for parents wading in the shallow end of faith, most times this isn’t even an option.
But what if we changed this adult faith formation opportunity to a two-hour event, during a non-nap/meal time (9-11 a.m.), where young parents can come to the church with their children to spend time delving into the faith together through a few family activities.
As a parent of a 13-month-old and one in the womb, this option doesn’t only sound appealing, it sounds exciting! Especially if these activities will apply to my own spiritual needs and help me pass down the faith to my little ones!
