Ewa Beach native a member of new U.S.A. Marianist provincial council

The 300-member Marianist Province of the United States installed its new provincial council, an eight-member leadership body, last month.

The Marianists sponsor Chaminade University of Honolulu and Saint Louis School in Honolulu as well as St. Anthony Parish and St. Anthony Junior-Senior High School in Wailuku. The new council includes Marianist Brother Dennis Bautista who is from in Ewa Beach.

The leaders of the provincial council are as follows:

  • Father Martin Solma, 67, provincial, or head, of the U.S. Province, adding three more years to five years already served.
  • Brother Joseph Kamis, 68, assistant provincial, also adding three years to five years already served.

Other council members include:

  • Father William Meyer, 67, assistant for religious life.
  • Brother Thomas Giardino, 72, assistant for education.
  • Brother Ronald Overman, 70, assistant for temporalities.
  • Brother Dennis Bautista, 42, councilor.
  • Brother Charles Johnson, 54, councilor.
  • Father John Thompson, 53, councilor.

The Marianists are an international Catholic religious order of brothers and priests. In the United States, they sponsor the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, and Chaminade, as well as 18 secondary and middle schools, six parishes and four retreat centers.

Blessed William Joseph Chaminade founded the Marianist order in France in 1817.
