Manaolana | Makana Aiona: Exciting ways to enhance young adult ministry

07/03/2015 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Context

Every June 24, I reflect on and examine my life. This year, I realized my questions were the same, but their context had changed. Being a cradle Catholic, I memorized prayers and fulfilled obligations.

I went through Confirmation in high school and made that “adult” decision to make my own the Catholic faith given to me. Yet, it wasn’t until my mid-20s that I took responsibility for that faith.

There the context of questions changed from the world to heaven! No more waiting for the next penance service or for Sunday to “go see Jesus.” Today, I want to do everything I can for the Kingdom of God now.

Then it hit me, like the first ray of sun at daybreak. If I’m going to celebrate the day I was brought into this world, why not celebrate the day I was brought into the church? After all, I was born on the Nativity of John the Baptist!

Just one problem, I don’t know my baptismal date. So I invite you to join me in finding our days of baptism and celebrating them!

“As I know my birthday, I should know my Baptism day, because it is a feast day.” —Pope Francis

Makana Aiona is the diocesan coordinator for Young Adult Ministry.
