Kahu Brian Broshard leads the blessing for the soon-to-be-built playground at its groundbreaking ceremony Feb. 25 at The Homes at Ulu Wini in Kailua-Kona. The $180,000 Miracle Mega Tower was made possible by a donation from the Roberts Foundation. The play structure will feature double-deck tower and water fountain, spiral and wave slides, a fish bridge, play panels, stairs, risers, ladders and a fossil bluff climbing wall. Volunteers are expected to complete the playground by the end of March. The Homes at Ulu Wini provides 96 two-bedroom units for homeless and low-income families. Built in 2013 by the County of Hawaii’s Office of Housing and Community Development, it is operated by HOPE Services Hawaii, a Catholic non-profit organization dedicated to ending homelessness in Hawaii.
