Chaminade University’s School of Nursing has been approved by the Sigma Theta Tau International board of directors to join its Gamma Psi-at-large Chapter of the Honor Society of Nursing. The chapter will amend its charter by adding the Chaminade school at a ceremony April 25 at the Japanese Cultural Center in Honolulu.
Twenty-three students will be inducted as new members of the group by its president Dr. Estelle Codier.
The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to improve peoples’ health worldwide through leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research. Membership is by invitation. Members include baccalaureate and graduate nursing students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship and nurse leaders who demonstrate exceptional achievement in nursing.
To participate in the society, a school of nursing must offer a minimum of a baccalaureate degree or the equivalent and be accredited by a recognized accrediting body.
Founded in 1922, the honor society has 134,000 active members in 463 chapters in more than 90 countries. Members include nurses, instructors, researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs and others.
Chaminade offers a Bachelor of Science in Nursing through a full-time, traditional undergraduate degree program.
