Poems to the Herald

03/13/2015 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

My soul burns in wonder

By L.L. Rocheford, Special to the Herald

Oh! How dark is the night,
That creates shadows of anxieties,
That softly haunt the morning light.

The dawn of heaven’s sunlight,
Stirs a burning in my soul,
That exhorts me on my path to God.

Yet darkness will come again,
As the waning light of day,
Silently hibernates into the night.

I must endure the pain,
Until penance purges my soul,
Of all my worldly sins.

I prayerfully await my Savior,
The forgiving Morning Star,
To call me home.

Sacred room

By Easter Almuena, Special to the Herald

When your face fades in the moment
I know your spirit will veer my thoughts
For in my lack of attentiveness
You steer the rudder to the sacred room

When lured to take the expected course
I know you will caution me to be pliable
To the prompting of your sketches
And to the sound of your voice

When I seek comfort and assurance
I will be at peace in knowing that
In unspoken words and hidden trails
You journey with me all the way

When my hands bear calluses and stripes
You will have me look at the tree of love
So I may only speak your language
That brings you unforgotten joy

When my heart has become inflexible
You will hold me tight to remind me
That to love is the steepest of all trails
That brings me closer to your sacred room

Never a moment more beautiful
Than being with you, my Beloved!
You are sufficient, You are enough for me
With joy forever more in your sacred room!
