Jesuit Father Russell Roide, the director of adult spirituality at Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose, California, and former director of the Newman Center at the University of Hawaii, is leading two pilgrimages this summer, one to shrines in Spain, Portugal and France, the other to the Holy Land and shrines in Italy.
The first pilgrimage, in June, goes to the shrines of Spain, Lourdes, Fatima and Paris. The destinations include the birthplace of St. Ignatius Loyola; Montserrat, the monastery where he asked for the guidance of our Blessed Mother; and the Cave of Manresa where he experienced and wrote the Spiritual Exercises, the paradigm for all Jesuit ministries.
This pilgrimage is divided into parts, so a traveler may choose the shrines of Spain only, or Fatima, the shrines of Spain and Lourdes, or more.
The second pilgrimage to the Holy Land and shrines of Italy, in July, may also be taken as a whole, or split up. The agency in the Holy Land which coordinates onsite pilgrimages uses hotels, buses and guides well-versed in the local situation.
The tour company, 206Tours, will arrange flights or offer a “land only” option for travelers who wish to arrange their own air transportation. To have a copy of the flyer mailed to you, email Father Roide at rroide@bcp.org.
