Manaolana | Lisa Gomes: Mary’s preeminent place

09/26/2014 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

LISA’S CATECHISM CORNER

YOUCAT*: Mary is the Mother of God. She was united with Jesus on earth as no other human being was or could be — in an intimacy that does not cease in heaven. Mary is the Queen of Heaven, and in her motherhood she is quite close to us. [972]

In 1964, Pope Paul VI named Mary the Mother of the Church, acknowledging something the church has always known. Jesus gave us his mother as our spiritual mother. Mary is the perfect model of faith, obedience, fidelity, compassion and prayerfulness. She is our mother. May we strive to follow her example.

“May the Mother of Jesus and our Mother always smile on your spirit, obtaining for it, from her Most Holy Son, every heavenly blessing.” —Saint Padre Pio
