Pearl City parish hosting Alzheimer’s presentation

08/29/2014 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

What if your aging father or other family member no longer recognizes you? What if you notice your neighbor wandering in the neighborhood seemingly lost? They may be experiencing the debilitating effects of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, characterized by memory loss and changes in behavior. Learning about this disease will help you detect its warning signs and how to understand better its impact on daily activities.

The Our Lady of Good Counsel Ohana Ministry to the Homebound, in Pearl City, invites you to a free three-part presentation on Alzheimer’s and dementia, Aug, 30, from 8:30 a.m.-noon, in the parish’s Pastoral Center.

Pamela Y. Scott, Oahu program specialist for the Alzheimer’s Association, will be presenting the following topics:

  • “Ten Warning Signs” — How to recognize the warning signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia
  • “Communication” — How to better communicate with a person with dementia
  • “Behaviors” — How to respond when dementia causes unpredictable behaviors.

Light refreshments will be served. Call the parish office at 455-3012 to register.
