Busy summer for Chuukese Catholic Community

07/04/2014 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Members of the Chuukese Catholic Community are gearing up for two special events this summer, aimed at fostering neighborhood service opportunities and celebrating fellowship among Micronesian youth.

On July 5, the community’s “Summer Clean Up Project” will assign several teams to help spruce up Ala Moana, Sand Island and Keehi Lagoon parks in Honolulu, as well as Neal S. Blaisdell Park in Aiea. The parks, according to Marvin Bernard of the Chuukese Catholic Community, are frequented by Oahu’s Micronesian population.

The community’s third annual track and field event for Micronesian youth will be held July 12-13 at Kaiser High School. Opening ceremonies will start at 9 a.m. on July 12, with races and festivities running until 5 p.m. The competition will continue July 13 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Dozens of youth participants from parishes on Oahu and the neighbor islands are expected to attend the track and field days. Teams will compete in several short and long distance races, from the 100-meter dash to the 2,400-meter dash. There will also be various relays. Prizes will be given to all teams.

For more information on the Chuukese Catholic Community events, call Marvin Bernard, 699-8891.
