Photo: One nation, under God

06/20/2014 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Deacon Kin Borja, district manager of Hawaii’s Knights of Columbus, displays a proclamation issued June 12 by Gov. Neil Abercrombie and Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui in recognition of U.S. Flag Day, June 14. The proclamation commends the role of the Supreme Council of the Knights of Columbus in petitioning President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952 to add the phrase “under God” to the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. The president signed a joint congressional resolution doing just that on Flag Day, June 14, 1954.
