Manaolana | Makana’s helpful hints: Walk with me

06/20/2014 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

I love June. It’s got my birthday, the NBA Finals, south shore swells, the World Cup (every four years), and … the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi)!

Two years ago, Stephanie and I joined the Corpus Christi Eucharistic Procession which was started, in its current form, by Bishop Larry Silva in 2007. Half way through the procession, Stephanie leaned over and whispered to me, “We are coming to this every year, OK?”

As we walked from St. Theresa Co-Cathedral to Our Lady of Peace Cathedral, we sang hymns and paused at certain spots to adore Christ. I found myself thanking God for the sacrifice of his son and the gift of the Eucharist. Each year since, I come to a profound realization. I am literally following Jesus! Immediately, I ask for forgiveness because I realize people would associate me with Jesus because I am physically with him, walking with him.

Now Stephanie and I make sure to invite others to walk with us. So please join us this Sunday, at St. Theresa Co-Cathedral for Mass at 10:30 a.m. and the procession to follow. Go to him, talk with him, walk with him.

Makana Aiona is the diocesan coordinator for Young Adult Ministry.
