Fans of the Beatles and devotees of the Blessed Mother can come together at the Daughters of St. Paul bookstore May 3 for a fun event hosted by a local Catholic deeply dedicated to music and Mary.
Dennis Muth, a parishioner of St. Anthony Church in Kailua, recently published the book, “Mother Mary Comes to Me: Words of Wisdom from Medjugorje.” He will visit the Pauline Books and Media shop in downtown Honolulu for a talk, book signing and meet-and-greet session.
Muth, a talented drummer who has played in various Beatles cover bands, will also perform with a few friends an acoustic “mini-concert” of hits by the Fab Four.
The May 3 event is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. Drinks and pupus will be provided.
In his book “Mother Mary Comes to Me: Words of Wisdom from Medjugorje,” Muth writes a candid, heartfelt account of his personal faith journey. From his childhood in California, to his pilgrimage to the famous Marian apparition site in Europe, to his move to Hawaii and participation in the Basic Christian Community, Muth chronicles key life events that led him to fully embrace his Catholic faith.
“It started as a journal about that summer backpacking trip (to Medjugorje) after college … so I wouldn’t forget details later, but also to have as a memoir” for his two children, Muth said. “Never had any intention of publishing it.”
Muth weaves into the book simple humor, wit and vivid anecdotes. His story is told through chapters titled in homage to the Beatles, his longtime favorite band. A first-time author, Muth said the book was an act of faith to produce, completed through the help of many friends and a lot of prayer.
He hopes “Mother Mary Comes to Me” will enlighten more people to the story of Medjugorje, where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to several children in 1981. Some of the “seers” who witnessed that initial apparition said they continue receive messages from the Blessed Mother to this day.
Muth’s book is currently available through his website, www.mothermarycomestome.net. Copies can also be purchased at the Pauline bookstore. For more information on Muth’s May 3 event, contact the Daughters of St. Paul at 521-2731.
