St. Anthony Retreat Center sponsoring a workshop/retreat on domestic violence

04/11/2014 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

St. Anthony Retreat Center in Kalihi Valley is sponsoring a two-day workshop/retreat on healing the trauma of domestic violence, 1-5 p.m. on May 31 and June 7. Sacred Hearts Father David Lupo and Malu Kamanu will direct the retreat. Also speaking will be an expert in the counseling of victims of post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, associated with domestic abuse.

The workshop/retreat is called “Healing the Trauma of Domestic Abuse: Even Once Can Hurt a Lifetime.” Its goal is to give participants an understanding of domestic abuse and keys to recovery.

The topics include: why women stay in abusive relationships, the importance of relaxation and selfadvocacy, managing stress, letting go of anger and guilt, the impact of abuse on children, assertiveness and influential communication, identifying symptoms of PTSD, healing with holy Scripture and the teachings of the church, and faith and forgiveness — a sacred path to restoring love.

The activities of each day will be followed by a Mass, which is optional. The cost for the two days is $15. The retreat center is at 3351 Kalihi St., Honolulu. There is ample parking.
