Bishop DiLorenzo named as Bishop of Richmond

Pope John Paul II has appointed Honolulu Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo as Bishop of Richmond, Va. He will be installed on May 24.

Archbishop Gabriel Montalvo, the papal nuncio to the United States, made the announcement in Washington on March 31.

On the day of the announcement, Bishop DiLorenzo was in Richmond, where he gave a news conference with other diocesan officials and met with officials and staff of his new diocese.

Bishop DiLorenzo’s Honolulu replacement has not yet been announced. An administrator for the diocese will most likely be appointed before the bishop takes his position in Richmond. The administrator would run the diocese while a new bishop is being chosen.
