Leaders from Hawaii Christian churches gathered with Bishop Larry Silva, bottom left photo, for a Taize Prayer service Jan. 24 at the Newman Center/Holy Spirit Parish in Manoa. Hundreds of faithful from different Christian denominations joined them for an hour of meditative chants, petitions, Scripture reading and reverencing of the cross. Bishop Silva hosted the Taize Prayer event in lieu of the ecumenical evening gathering traditionally scheduled during the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in January.
