Visiting Jesuit to present Pearl City parish advent retreat

11/22/2013 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

Visiting Jesuit Father Philip Chircop will present the parish Advent retreat titled, “Open Your Heart and Feed Your Soul,” 7-8:15 p.m., Dec. 16-18, in the Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish Hall in Pearl City.

The retreat promises to “explore three movements of an open heart: annunciation, visitation and incarnation, themes that enlighten us about the fulfillment of God’s promise and the Son of God coming into the world.”

“Be prepared to fill your heart and feed your soul with food, music and the Word!” the event’s promotional flyer says. “It’s not your typical church event!”

“Our hope is that through these daily Advent practices,” the flyer states, “we will reflect more and more on the God we believe in, who can be described as ‘An Infinite Heart Embracing All.’”

Father Chircop, who is originally from Malta, has advanced degrees in pastoral theology, communications and spirituality. His ministry is mainly retreat work and spiritual direction.

He is described as “an artist at heart and madly in love with all things beautiful and soulful: music, painting, sculpture, photography, film, theatre, poetry, good company, good food, good wine and more.”
