Manaolana | Lisa’s catechism corner: Is it enough to pray when you feel like it?

11/22/2013 by Hawaii Catholic Herald

YOUCAT*: No. Someone who prays only when he feels like it does not take God seriously and will leave off praying. Prayer thrives on faithfulness [2650]

“Pray without ceasing.” (1Thessalonians 5:17)

How many of you read that Scripture verse and think to yourself: “Yeah, right. How can we pray all the time?”

Well, we can. Prayer is our way of staying in touch with God — like text messaging is a way to stay in touch with our friends. Oftentimes we pray when we want something from God, or when we want to thank him. Those are both good opportunities to pray, BUT, God is always communicating to us; and being open to his presence is an act of prayer.

Every moment of every day is an opportunity for prayer. Prayer doesn’t have to be complicated, long and drawn out — you don’t even have to use words. Pray with your heart. The more we pray, the stronger our relationship with God becomes.

#YearofFaith Challenge: As we end the Year of Faith, and begin a new liturgical year, commit to praying regularly.
